The screenplay for ‘Come Live With Me’ (1941) was based on a story by Virginia Van Upp. She was one of the few women working as a producer in the 1940s. Perhaps best known for her work with Rita Hayworth, including as a producer on ‘Gilda’.
Did you know? The film’s title comes from the poem “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” by Christopher Marlowe. ‘Come Live With Me’ is this week’s matinee!
Our matinee for the coming week is the story of a refugee who arranges a marriage of convenience to avoid deportation. ‘Come Live With Me’ (1941) is a charming romantic comedy that pairs Jimmy with the brilliant and beautiful Hedy Lamarr.
Jimmy won his only competitive Oscar for his role in ‘The Philadelphia Story’. Many believe it was sort of a consolation prize for his not having won the previous year for ‘Mr. Smith’.
We're sad to hear of the passing of Hardy Kruger, pictured here (at right) with Richard Attenborough and Jimmy in 'The Flight of the Phoenix' (1965). He was 93.
